Dr. Mildred Gallot Joins Board of Supervisors for the UL System

Dr. Mildred Gallot Joins Board of Supervisors for the UL System - Aug 26, 2005

Mildred Gallot of Grambling is now an official member of the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System. She was sworn in at the Board’s meeting in Baton Rouge on Aug. 26 and immediately got down to business, reviewing the budgets of the UL System and its eight universities (please see other Board actions in this issue).

Board Chairman Mike Woods, fellow member Wayne Parker, and System President Dr. Sally Clausen all say that Gallot’s experience in higher education will be very helpful as she serves on the Board. “We were very impressed with her resume and her interest in continuing to raise the expectations for even more success among our faculties, staffs and students,” said Dr. Clausen.

Gallot was a stellar student, graduating as valedictorian of her high school in St. Landry Parish. Later, she became very familiar with ULS schools from the inside, earning her bachelor's degree in social science education from Grambling State University and her master's in education from Louisiana Tech University. She also attended classes at the University of Louisiana at Monroe and earned an Ed.D. in education from LSU.

Professionally, Gallot spent 44 years at Grambling as a staff employee and professor, retiring from Grambling in 2003 as head of the history department. She is a well-known political analyst and was recognized as the "historian" of Grambling, writing a book titled, A History of Grambling State University. Her husband, Richard, is a former Grambling mayor. They have three children, including son Rick who is a state representative. They also have six grandchildren.
