Part of Continuing Professional Development
BATON ROUGE, La. – Financial aid officials and other campus staff from all eight universities in the University of Louisiana System will take part in an ethics training seminar facilitated by Mike Dupree of the Louisiana Ethics Commission this Thursday in Baton Rouge. The training is part of the UL System’s continued efforts to provide professional development opportunities for system staff and campuses.
WHAT: Ethics Training
WHEN: 10:30 a.m. – noon, Thursday, Oct. 25
WHERE: Room 153, Claiborne Building, 1201 N. Third Street, Baton Rouge
Ethics training is one part of a College Loan Code of Conduct the UL System Board of Supervisors approved at its June meeting. The code was established to formalize and standardize best practices across the University of Louisiana System in providing optimum educational loans and loan consolidations to students and their parents.
“Our financial aid officers have the very important job of advising students and parents of their financial aid options,” said UL System Associate Provost and Vice President for Student Affairs Brad O’Hara. “This training, along with the recent establishment of the UL System College Loan Code of Conduct, will reinforce the best practices already in place on our campuses.”
In August, U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings issued a letter to colleges and universities promoting ethical behavior in regards to student loans. The Department of Education will implement new regulations on July 1, 2008. The UL System code is in compliance with the proposed national student loan regulations.
“Our universities are ahead of the curve,” said O’Hara.
The UL System is working on additional professional development opportunities in the areas of communications, finance, and academic and student affairs.
