Public Encouraged to Provide Feedback at Friday's Southeastern Presidential Search Meeting Before the Committee Selects Finalists
Hammond, La. - This Friday morning at 9:30, the Southeastern Louisiana University Presidential Search Committee will meet to deliberate and select at least two finalists to send to the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System. Prior to deliberations, the public will have an opportunity to provide input to the committee. For those unable to attend the meeting, comments can be sent via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
"The committee wants to hear from the public before deciding which candidates will go to the full Board," said UL System President and search chair Randy Moffett. "The candidates are interacting in a series of meetings with the university community, and we want to take their reflections into consideration."
Semi-finalist interviews with the presidential search committee are underway this week on the Hammond campus. Michael Shonrock completed his interview this morning and will meet with faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members throughout the day.
The remaining three semi-finalists will interview and interact with the university community Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week. Their interviews with the search committee are scheduled as follows:
- 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 10 - Nick J. Bruno
- 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 11 - John L. Crain
- 2:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 12 - Karen A. White
All interviews and committee meetings are at the Southeastern Alumni Center (500 W. University Avenue).
The Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System will hold a special meeting at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 17, 2009 in Baton Rouge to interview finalists for the Southeastern Louisiana University Presidential Search. A new president could be selected at that time.
Voting members of the 10-member committee include UL System Board Members Andre Coudrain of Hammond, Elsie Burkhalter of Slidell, Russell Mosely of Baton Rouge, Wayne Parker of Ruston, Winfred Sibille of Sunset, and Student Board Member Morgan Verrette of Lake Charles. Also serving as a voting member is Southeastern Faculty Senate Representative Joseph Burns.

With more than 15,000 students, Southeastern is Louisiana's third largest public university. The university was recently named "a great college to work for" by the Chronicle of Higher Education. Since 1990, Southeastern has been one of the fastest growing universities in the state, with an enrollment growth that has exceeded the state average. At the same time, the university increased admission requirements and its regional and statewide profile. This fall, the percentage of incoming freshmen with an ACT of 24 or above increased 19 percent.
The university is a catalyst for economic development along I-12, playing a central role in workforce development, strategic partnerships, the generation and transfer of ideas and technology and enhancing the quality of life in communities throughout the region.
