Grambling Presidential Search Resumes with Thursday Meeting

BATON ROUGE - The Grambling State University Presidential Search Committee will meet Thursday in Baton Rouge to resume its work.  Items on the agenda include orienting new committee members and revisiting the search timeline.

WHAT: Grambling State University Presidential Search Committee Meeting

WHEN: 2 p.m., Thursday, June 3, 2010

WHERE: Conference Room, Southeastern Louisiana University School of Nursing, 4849 Essen Lane, Baton Rouge, LA

At its last meeting on Feb. 26, the search committee unanimously agreed to pause the search process in order to allow Interim President Frank Pogue time to continue to stabilize the university.  Reasons cited included accreditation and budget.

This spring Grambling completed four major accreditation site visits: The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

"The university has persevered through major milestones, and I am confident now is the time to resume the work of the committee.  Our intense focus will be to find the next president for Grambling State University as quickly as possible," said University of Louisiana System President and Grambling Presidential Search Committee Chair Randy Moffett.

The original 11-member search committee has adjusted slightly due to a change in the UL System Board composition with incoming Student Board Member Brook Sebren taking the place of Steven Jackson.

The now 12-member search committee is comprised of UL System Board Members Elsie Burkhalter, Edward Crawford, Mildred Gallot, Jeffrey Jenkins, Jimmy Long, Sr., D. Wayne Parker, Winfred Sibille, Student Board Member Brook Sebren and Grambling faculty representative Matthew Ware.  Grambling SGA President LaMark Hughes and Community representative Wilbert Ellis serve as non-voting members along with UL System President Randy Moffett who serves as the non-voting chair.

Founded in 1901 as a private industrial school to educate African-American citizens in north central Louisiana, Grambling is a comprehensive university offering undergraduate, graduate, professional and continuing education programs.  Situated on a 370-acre campus in the small town of Grambling, the historically black university has almost 5,000 students.
