UL SYSTEM APPOINTS GALLOT AS GRAMBLING PRESIDENT
Today the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System met and selected Rick Gallot Jr. as the next Grambling State University president. Gallot was among more than 15 applicants for the university's chief position.
"The Gallot family has a long history with GSU and we think Rick is the strongest choice to be its next leader," Board Chair Beau Martin said. "He is passionate about the university and we hope the students, faculty, staff and alumni rally behind him with support as he takes the helm."
Gallot is an attorney, a former state legislator and a Grambling alumnus. During his interview he highlighted his family's long-time commitment to the Grambling community and his enthusiasm for the university's future.
"What Grambling State University needs now, more than anything, is stability. I know the Grambling community, and the community knows me," Gallot said. "Throughout my years of public service, I have developed a skill set and reputation for being a consensus and coalition builder. One of my first goals is to engage our various stakeholders to harness our energy, ideas, love and commitment to our university."
During the meeting, Interim System President Dan Reneau spoke of the importance of creating a positive environment for Grambling's next leader. He indicated that a comprehensive internal review of the university will take place and create a tool for the new leader.
"I look forward to working with Rick as he begins his tenure as Grambling's president," Reneau said. "Grambling has suffered from a revolving door of leadership the past 25 years and this historic institution deserves the stability that can only be found with a strong leader."
Dr. Reneau and Chair Martin will work with Gallot to negotiate the details of his appointment as well as a start date.
