MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT NICK BRUNO:

The Special Needs Shelter, housed in ULM's Fant-Ewing Colisuem, will cease operation tonight. As indicated earlier, classes will not resume until Tuesday; however, university offices will re-open tomorrow, Aug. 31, at 7:30 a.m. I realize some employees may be experiencing power outages or other challenges prohibiting their return to work. These employees should communicate with their immediate supervisors and request leave so they may address these matters.

I want to extend my appreciation to the entire campus community for your cooperation during the last several days.  I want to especially thank employees who reported to work today, monitored the storm's effect on our campus, and ensured students were accommodated.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ORLEANS, New Orleans, Louisiana
1-888-514-4275; http://ehso.uno.edu/emergency/; Email: safety@uno.edu

The University of New Orleans has canceled classes Thursday, August 30, and Friday, August 31, due to Hurricane Isaac. Monday, September 3, is a university holiday. Classes will resume on Tuesday, September 4. If possible, essential personnel should report on Friday, August 31. If in doubt, employees should contact their supervisor.

The worst effects of Hurricane Isaac have moved out of the New Orleans area. The UNO Police Department is in the process of conducting a damage assessment. Thus far, damage appears to be minimal; however, it will take some time to remove tree limbs and debris from campus. Classes have been canceled until Tuesday, September 4. Faculty and staff should not report to work until Tuesday, and there is no access to academic buildings at this time. Only essential personnel should report on Friday, August 31. If in doubt, employees should contact their supervisor.

Power to campus has been restored. The safety of our campus community is of paramount concern. We will not reopen campus until we are certain that it is a safe and secure place for all UNO students, faculty and staff.
