Southeastern Louisiana University

Southeastern Louisiana University is a diverse family of students from over thirty states and over fifty foreign countries. Southeastern faculty and staff are dedicated to student success, and take the extra step to guide students along in their academic journey. University professors mirror the success of Southeastern wants its students to achieve – the majority of them hold the highest degree in their field, and faculty, not graduate students, teach 99% of the classes with an average teacher-student ratio of 27:1!

Southeastern Louisiana University’s friendly size give education a personal touch, but the University’s vision, its scholarship, and service to the community are large examples of Southeastern’s success. Southeastern’s lovely campus, with its tall pines, live oaks, and attractive blend of new and old buildings, including $26 million in new construction, spreads over 365 acres in northeast Hammond. Its central location – midway between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, close to recreation areas, surrounded by communities famous for festivals – is a plus. Although located in one of the fastest growing areas, Hammond still provides Southeastern a serene home.

Southeastern Louisiana University is dedicated to increasing the learning experience of its students both inside and outside of the classroom. When it comes to choosing a degree and career, students have many options. Southeastern offers 59 degree programs. At Southeastern, quality is key. Ninety-two percent of bachelor’s degree programs and all master’s degree programs are nationally accredited. Nursing and education graduates consistently score high on the state licensure exam and the National Teacher’s Exam. There are four innovative undergraduate research programs offered at Southeastern that provide opportunities for students to work one-on-one with faculty on research and creative projects, allowing students to gain valuable experience and to observe the exciting process of research first-hand. The goals of undergraduate research programs are to strengthen the link between faculty research and the teaching/learning process and to foster personalized learning opportunities for students.

More than thirty computer labs with the latest technology, as well as a number of technology-rich classrooms are located throughout the campus and in all residence halls. Southeastern is easily accessible; the main campus is at the crossroads of Interstates 12 and 55, and busy students can take classes at nine neighboring communities and over the Internet. Students get the total college experience through more than 100 diverse and dynamic student organizations, exciting cultural events such as the annual Fanfare celebration of the arts, twelve intercollegiate Southland Conference sports and a wide variety of facilities focusing on recreation, refreshments and fitness. Southeastern also offers unique student “perks.” Southeastern is the only university in the state that provides a cost-saving textbook rental policy.

Since 1925, Southeastern Louisiana University has worked with determination and commitment to expand Southeastern’s role as an incubator of ideas, a laboratory of experiments, and an avenue of debate and discussion. Yet, Southeastern has always been, and will always remain, a campus where the student is “a name, not a number!”
