RFL SCHOLARS PRESENT TO BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

All three cohorts of the Reginald F. Lewis Scholars visited today’s Board meeting as part of their annual retreat. Isaiah Crawford, Cohort 2 Scholar from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Eian Bailey, Cohort 3 Scholar from the University of New Orleans spoke to the Board about their individual experiences as scholars. 

“I’ve been able to shake hands and meet people in positions that I only knew existed on the television,” Crawford said. “This program has allowed me to completely shatter the limitations that I placed on myself.”

The Board of Supervisors welcomed the Scholars and congratulated them on their selection and the personal growth each has enjoyed as a result of their participation. 

“I want to congratulate you for taking advantage of this program and putting your best foot forward.” Board Chair Liz Pierre said. “It’s a blessing to see what you’ve been able to accomplish and what you’ve allowed us to pour into you. I hope you continue to take full advantage, and I’m so proud of you guys.” 

During the two-day retreat, Scholars learned about the importance of leading healthy lifestyles, financial management, and civic engagement. Scholars also led a digital literacy workshop in partnership with Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System and AT&T.

Mark your calendars for the 2023 University of Louisiana System Title IX Summit at Southeastern Louisiana University November 1-2.

We look forward to sharing programs, trainings, resources, and lessons learned in creating a coordinated community response to sexual violence with our member institutions. Additionally, participants will gain knowledge about the breadth of Title IX including areas such as gender equity and athletics.

Louisiana Tech University: approval to enter into a Ground Lease with the Louisiana Tech University Foundation, for the purpose of replacing the videoboard and support structure at Joe Aillet Stadium, as authorized by La. R.S. 17:3361.

Nicholls State University: approval to name the Professional Sales Lab located in Powell Hall, Room 209, College of Business Administration, the “Will S. Hornsby Professional Sales Laboratory.”

Northwestern State University’s request to amend its current lease with England Economic and Industrial Development District to add adjacent property and adjust the lease term and consideration to accommodate the expansion of NSU’s College of Nursing and Allied Health.

University of Louisiana at Lafayette: approval to enter into a Purchase and Sale Agreement for the acquisition of 810 Vortex Drive, New Iberia, Louisiana, from Mr. Gregory A. Chitwood.

University of Louisiana at Lafayette: approval for the execution of leases between the Board, on behalf of the University, and Ragin’ Cajun Facilities, Inc., a private 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, in connection with the lease and leaseback of a portion of the University’s campus to finance cost of the design, development, equipping, renovation, reconstruction, and construction of football stadium seating improvements and related facilities.
