History
Established through 1975 Legislation, ACT 313, and through the 1975 Constitution of the State of Louisiana, Article VIII. Section6. Board of Trustees for State Colleges and Universities.

The first Meeting of the Board was held on May 1, 1975 in the Mineral Board Room – Natural Resources Building. The staff office was located in One American Place (American Bank Building) on the corner of North Street and Fourth Street Baton Rouge, LA 70825.

In April 1981 the staff office relocated to 151 Riverside Mall, (Third Street), Baton Rouge, LA 70801. In January 1986 the staff office relocated to 150 Third Street, Third Floor State Office Building, Baton Rouge, LA 70801. In 2002, the staff office relocated to its current address of 1201 North Third Street, Suite 7-300, Baton Rouge, LA 70802.

The System Office name changed in June 1995 to the University of Louisiana System.

The Board name changed pursuant to Act 168 (Senate Bill 42 of the 1998 Extraordinary Session of the Louisiana Legislative Session and the in the November 1999 Congressional Election. The new name became the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System on December 4, 1998.

The Board of Trustees for State Colleges and Universities at its November 21, 1986 meeting approved a reorganization concept which changed the position of Executive Director to that of Chancellor or President of the System and appointed Dr. J. Larry Crain to serve as President effective 12/1/86.

The University of Louisiana System Board of Trustees for State Colleges and Universities at its June 29, 1995 meeting received the report of the 1995 Legislature that changed the System name to University of Louisiana System – (Act 45, Senate Bill No. 843, authored by Senators Picard and Brinkhous and Representatives McDonald, McFerren, Montgomery and Thompson).
