One System. One Mission.

The University of Louisiana System (UL System) is one of the largest public higher education systems in the country, serving more than 83,000 students across nine institutions.
As a multi-campus system, we are dedicated to providing high-quality, affordable education to the people of Louisiana. Our institutions offer academic programs ranging from associate degrees to doctoral research, supporting learning, talent development, and economic growth across the state.
Together, these institutions serve a broad and varied student population while advancing the state’s public interests. Though each institution’s mission is shaped by its history, academic focus, and the needs of the communities it serves, all share a unified commitment to transforming lives through education and strengthening Louisiana’s future.
History Of The Ul System
The UL System was established in 1974 as the Board of Trustees for State Colleges and Universities to coordinate and strengthen public higher education across the state. In 1998, the organization was renamed the University of Louisiana System, and five community colleges were transferred to what would become the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, solidifying the UL System’s role as a unified body of four-year institutions.
