Economic Impact

Together, the nine universities of the UL System represent a unified force for positive change, serving every region of the state and advancing a shared mission: to improve lives through accessible, high-quality public higher education.
As one of the nation’s largest public higher education systems and the largest in Louisiana, the UL System plays a pivotal role in strengthening Louisiana’s economy, talent pipeline, and communities. The universities within the System generate more than $13 billion in annual economic impact, making the UL System one of the most powerful economic engines in the state. This impact encompasses the value created when students earn degrees, enter Louisiana’s workforce, and contribute to stronger, more resilient communities.
Eighty-eight percent of our students come from within the state, and most stay here after graduation. That retention translates into long-term economic return: higher lifetime earnings, increased tax contributions, and stronger civic engagement.

Talent Pipeline Dashboards
Drawing on data from our Alumni Pathways study conducted by Lightcast, we developed dashboards that provide insight into employment trends, degree outcomes, geographic mobility, and industry alignment, equipping campuses, leaders, and partners with the information needed to strengthen talent development and opportunity statewide.
For more information on the Alumni Pathways project, read this publication written by President Rick Gallot and Dr. Claire Norris, in collaboration with Lightcast.
